His chief field of interest is the pathology of trauma of lightning (keraunopathology)
He has published widely in the fields of electrocution, suicide and other areas involving the pathology of trauma. His chief mission in life is to help advance Forensic Pathology Services both nationally and internationally. Professor Blumenthal has published 33 articles in peer-reviewed Journals. He has contributed Chapters to five international textbooks and has written four books for the public. He is currently an NRF-C2 rated scientist.
His book 'Autopsy - Life in the trenches with a forensic pathologist from Africa' (Jonathan Ball Publishers) launched in August 2020 and became a non-fiction best-seller in South Africa.
His eight-part documentary “Lightning Pathologist” (Channel 180 DSTV) aired in November, was viewed by over 2.2 million people.

Gayle has more than 20 years of experience in both the Australian/New Zealand and Asian life claims markets, having held various claims roles since 1999, including case management, technical support, and leadership positions with both insurers and reinsurers. Gayle joined RGA in May 2017 and was appointed as Executive Director, Global Claims, Value Added Specialist in August 2020. Recognizing the pivotal role of the claims assessment process in the insurance value chain, Gayle focuses on projects and initiatives that develop the claims skillset and advance claims management capability.
